Learning & Implementing Sustainability in the Classroom June 21-23, 2010 25 Act 48 Hours Funded by an Environmental Education Grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection, the McKeever Center is hosting a three-day teacher workshop on sustainability and incorporating this concept into the classroom. The event begins with an Earth Education Workshop on Monday. This workshop will provide teachers with the methodology of earth education, an overview of the components of effective concept building and participation in activities from several earth education programs. On Tuesday, Dr. Randall Wiesenmayer, professor of science education at West Virginia University will cover climate change. He has been researching and publishing articles on Global Warming since the early 1990’s. He will present and discuss data to answer the question ”Is global warming a natural cycle or a result of human activities?” The remainder of the workshop will be devoted to alternative energy technologies including solar, wind and biofuels. We’ll examine green schools, calculate our carbon footprint and end with greening your own school. Cost: $95/person, includes three-day workshop, two nights lodging and seven meals. 25 Act 48 Hours are available. |
