Deep Creek Lake is located in the top western corner of Maryland. It is the perfect location winter or summer because in the summer you have the lakes and the trails, but in the winter you have SKIING - Ski Wisp looks over the lake and makes it the perfect vacation resort any time of the year. There are ENDLESS activities to do from swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, and waterskiing. That is just along the water! Horseback riding is a blast and go-karts are always fun no matter how old you are! If you are a golfer they have that too - there really is so much to do. If it rains, the have some indoor facilities which have laser tag, arcades, bowling, movies, and night clubs. Deep Creek Lake is especially great for large families. They have cabin MANISIONS which run about 800-1000 for the weekend but sleep anywhere from 8-24 people. 15 of us just took a trip for Fri-Sun and paid 72.00 each (INCLUDING OUR FOOD - We cooked) - The homes are beautiful (like you would see on MTV's The Real World) - hot tubs, pools, tennis and basketball courts and more. It really is an excellent get-away. Even if you are more into the slow pace, they do have museums and the neighborhoods are quiet. I recommend this location to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and being amongst friends and family.
Switch up drivers midway and don't hesitate to stop often. Leave early enough so that if you do stop a lot - you still get there at the earliest check in time.
My group created a weekend cd (we all had the same one for the trip), a word search, crossword, directions and map, events and to-do guides and a scavenger hunt for along the way, each car took a digital camera and recorded our fun! Be creative and think outside the box.
The route is already scenic so no alter routes needed. You hit past some historical locations as well as some visual wonders along the way.
If you have children take a portable dvd player.. it passes the time so well!
Take some snacks and drinks too!
